Raphael Wiggins, aka. Raphael Saadiq connait la célébrité au début des années 90 avec son groupe «Tony! Toni! Tone!» formé avec son frère Dwayne et son cousin Timothy Christian.
Né en 1966 à Oakland (Californie), Raphael Saadiq a commencé la musique à l'âge de six ans et joue plus tard de la basse dans les églises et les écoles. Après ses études, il a la chance de rejoindre Prince et Sheila E. sur leur tournée de 1984. Une telle expérience a donné envie à Raphael Saadiq de faire sa propre musique, il forme donc le groupe «Tony! Toni! Toné!» en 1987. Le trio connaît le succès en 1988 avec le single Little Walter issu de leur premier album Who ? . La renommée de Saadiq et ses compères monte encore d'un cran deux ans plus tard grâce au succès de leur second album The Revival. L'album suivant, Sons Of Soul, sortit trois ans plus tard connaît le même succès. Le quatrième album du trio, House Of Music sort en 1996. Parallèlement à la prépartation de ce quatrième album, les membres du groupe pensent à leur carrière solo et Raphael Saadiq produit en 1995 deux excellents singles pour des bandes originales de film : Ask Of You (pour «Higher Learning») et Me & You (pour Boyz in the Hood).
Bref c'est un grand nom de le monde de la musique.
